A beehive on the roof
Bees are among the most effective pollinators in the world, and we depend on them for one-third of the food we consume. That’s why we’ve installed honeybee hives on our roof to help this important pollinator. Here at the Château, our four hives are home to 70,000 bees, producing up to 650 pounds of honey per year. Harvested twice a year, the honey is used in our kitchens and in our cocktails.
An ecological legacy
After major renovations and significant investments to increase the energy efficiency of its building, Fairmont Le Château Frontenac has established a partnership with Laval University to enable the hotel to achieve carbon neutrality. By collaborating with the University, Le Château Frontenac wishes to take advantage of every opportunity to reduce its ecological footprint. Le Château Frontenac has chosen to join forces with Laval University, an internationally recognized institution of higher learning for its work in sustainable development and climate action, in a value-added partnership that will enable it to achieve carbon neutrality, i.e., to contribute significantly to the advancement of knowledge and science in the fight against climate change.
BE WTR at Fairmont Le Château Frontenac
A plastic-free initiative aimed at reducing our recyclable waste and providing our guests with quality water.
Every week, BE WTR delivers sealed glass bottles containing water, filtered using Swiss technology. The empty bottles will then be collected for sterilization, refilling, and sealing.
Our guests also have the option of refilling their bottles directly on each hotel floor, thanks to the water fountains installed on each floor.
Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
